What is the lifespan of the LED Street Light?

Normally, we calculate the lifetime of Hunter LED street light based on the brightness decreased. When the brightness of a LED street light decreases to 70% of the original, we could say the lifetime of LED street light is over theoretically, but actually the light is still functioning normally.

Colour Rendering of LED & HPS

The CRI of white LED is over 75, while that of well-encapsulated LED reaching 98, which makes the colour of the objects lightened appear natural.

The CRI of HPS is much weaker, with a CRI less of 23, and the objects lightened appear reddish.

The colour temperature of LED ranging from 2600k to 10000k.According to different functional lumination requirements, there are warm white, pure white and cold white for option.

Colour temperature is a characteristic of visible light that has important applications in lighting, photography, videography, publishing, and other fields. The colour temperature of a light source is determined by comparing its chromaticity with that of an ideal black-body radiator. The temperature (usually measured in kelvins (K) ) at which the heated black-body radiator matches the colour of the light source is that source's colour temperature; for a black body source, it is directly related to Planck's law and Wien's displacement law.

Counterintuitively, higher colour temperatures (5000 K or more) are "cool" (green–blue) colours, and lower colour temperatures (2700–3000 K) "warm" (yellow–red) colours.

In road and street lighting, the light penetrability mainly refers to the ability of penetrating through rain and fog.

The effect of foggy or rainy weather on the road lighting is reflected in that the light scattering of the suspended particle in the fog and the raindrop debases the penetrability, which leads to the drop of illumination intensity directly. The relevant theory is based on Rayleigh’s law of scattering and G. Mie.P.Debye’s law. The application scope of visible light scattering law is listed below: r represents the particle’s radius. When r<0.037 µ m, Rayleigh’s law of scattering works; when r>0.037µ m, G. Mie,P.Debye law comes into effect. The light scattering effect of Rayleigh’s is connected with wave length, while that of G. Mie,P.Debye is not. The radius of suspended partial in the fog and rain is as follows: 2.8µm~10µm in the fog, 10µm~5000µm in the raindrop. Since the particle radius is far over 0.037µm, there exists no connection between the light scattering and wave length in foggy or rainy weather, i.e., there lies no connection between the penetrability of road lighting and the colour of light.

Analysis on Development of Asia LED Indoor Lighting Market

Affected by multiple factors and fast development, it’s hard for people to predict the domestic LED indoor lighting market share. Many believe the market share would reach 10% in 2012, 30% in 2015, and 50% in 2020. However, the survey with LED lighting popularization schedule shows, many people hold a relative optimistic attitude. Officials from Osram consider the market share of LED indoor  lighting might reach 80% in 2020, the huge design space for LED will also bring along the development of correlative market except the enlarging lighting market scale, and the integral market scale is enormous.

CRI and Luminous Efficiency--Determinants of LED Lights

colour Rendering Index has drawn increasing attention in lighting field as well as high luminous efficiency, especially the indoor illumination. For example, the low pressure sodium light has a luminous efficiency of nearly 200lm/W but could only be applied in road lighting or some very few occasions due to low CRI caused by its mono chrome yellow light. The US DOE has raised the CRI of LED lights for indoor lighting from the original 70 (Aug.2007) to latest over 80 (Dec.2009), and in China lamination design standard, it is stipulated that the CRI in all the offices and restaurants should be 80 for the least.

Sales of incandescent bulb gets banned from Oct. 2012

National Development and Reform Commission of China has released exposure draft for phase-out of incandescent light bulb recently. Products concerned are ordinary lighting bulbs, reflection incandescent LED bulbs , LED spotlights, decorative lights and those for special usage are not included.

The manufacturing and sales amount of incandescent LED light bulb reached 3.85 billion and 1.07 billion in 2010, as reported, and electricity consumed on lighting takes 12% of the total consumption. If all the incandescent being used could be replaced by energy-saving lights, electricity with a total amount of 48 billion kwh could be conserved annually.
The phase-out will be carried out as below: ordinary lighting bulbs over 100 watts get banned in selling and import from Oct.1, 012, 60 watts from Oct.1, 2014 and 15 watts from Oct. 1, 2016.

Global LED Market Increasing by 6.2% in 2009

As is revealed in the report "Reviews and Prospects of Global High Brightness LED Market of 2010 " released by Strategies Unlimited recently, the global LED market rises to 3.3 billion pounds  in 2009 from 3 billion million in 2008, increasing by 6.2% compared with the same period.

The report also points out that, as demands for LED TV increased, sales of LED for display reached 230 million with a year-on-year increase of 178%.

The investigation report indicates, stated by Lee Sang-min, vice president of sales from Seoul semiconductor, and though the sales amount of LED television was 10% lower than that of the whole LED market, it was satisfying in other fields of LED application in 2009. The supply quantity of LED for LED TV is expected to increase significantly in China Mainland, Japan and Taiwan this year, thus enhancing the sales of relevant LED products correspondingly. In addition, LED illumination is considered as the new growth engine of LED market.
